Oil Diminishes Over Time
One of the downsides of aging is the many changes that our skin goes through as we get older. There are hormonal changes and fluctuations that affect the health and appearance of our skin, as well as diminishing amounts of various chemicals, proteins and other substances that give our skin its healthy glow once we reach our thirties. It’s about this time when a good quality skin care regimen becomes so important.
One of the substances that diminishes as we age is an oil called Squalane. Although squalane is naturally occurring in our skin, production of this chemical slows dramatically after age thirty. This contributes to dry skin, but Barely Blush makes it easy to work with your skin’s natural squalane to help balance what you have lost.
What is Squalane?
So what is Squalane and where do we get it? Squalane is an oil that Barely Blush extracts from natural cold-pressed olives. Not to be confused with squalene, Squalane is a saturated oil. This is important because saturated oils have single bonds within their fatty acid chains making them very stable. They are resistant to free radicals that are caused by the sun’s UV rays, and will not easily go rancid, as other, less stable oils will do.
The benefits of squalane are plenty. First and foremost, it’s a moisturizer. It helps to hydrate and plump your skin, leaving it soft and non-greasy. It’s ideal for use in both the treatment and prevention of eye and lip area dryness. These areas of our face tend to be the most delicate and can succumb to dryness easier than other areas. So squalane is great for those areas. It also helps to regulate oil production better than other oils found in skin care products and can help increase healing of chapped skin, eczema and psoriasis. It helps to protect skin from free radicals that cause premature aging of skin and is naturally antibacterial, which helps reduce acne without causing redness, irritation or stinging.
